Sr. R&D Lab Tech (LT3)

Location: Delta, British Columbia

This candidate will provide support for new product validation testing, production assembly verification, prototype builds, field return analysis & competitive benchmarking of high quality, cost-effective fireplace products. Works with Engineering Development team to establish product’s thermal performance while maintaining safe operating temperatures. In addition, assure that product safety, performance; robustness and reliability goals are met, as per industry/customer standards. Develop tests that are effective and appropriate to assess the same.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to standards for health and safety performance. Look for new ways to improve safety, quality and productivity
  • Conform to internal procedures & policies 
  • Plan, organize & conduct testing to validate that product design meets requirements. 
  • Provide written technical reports and maintain test report record system
  • Benchmark competitor’s products and maintain a reference library. 
  • Assist with field return analysis & root cause investigation as required 
  • May be asked to provide direction and supervision to Lab Technicians
  • Some travel may be expected
  • Other related duties as required


  • Must have good knowledge of sheet metal theory
  • Ability to convert theory to working models
  • Understanding of applicable test standards & documentation
  • Good understanding in jigs and fixtures design, good skills with hand tools and carpentry skills
  • Hands-on ability to make/modify parts for test models
  • Good communications skills in English – both written and verbal
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office


  • Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent from BCIT or equivalent


  • 3 - 5 years testing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Proficient with reliability techniques and methods
